In 2026, the Festival Esportivo do Subúrbio Ferroviário reaches a historic milestone: its 10th edition. Over the past decade, the event has established itself as one of Salvador’s most important youth sports and social integration initiatives, promoting sports as a powerful tool for development, inclusion, and life transformation. Organized by the Centro Educativo João Paulo II, the Festival was created with the vision of providing a major sporting celebration for children, adolescents, and young people, fostering an environment where sports promote values such as respect, discipline, teamwork, and citizenship. Since its beginning, the event has grown year after year, bringing together athletes, families, schools, social projects, sports clubs, and the wider community in a true celebration of sports.
Throughout these ten years, the Festival Esportivo do Subúrbio Ferroviário has become a landmark event in Salvador, shining a spotlight on the region where the Centro Educativo João Paulo II is located. Each edition welcomes thousands of participants and spectators who come to compete, cheer, and share moments of connection, strengthening the bonds among athletes, coaches, families, and the local community. This journey has been built through stories of perseverance, achievement, friendship, and unforgettable memories that have impacted generations. Records from the editions held between 2016 and 2025 demonstrate the Festival’s continuous growth and the positive influence it has had on the development of children and young people by using sports as an important instrument for social transformation.
In 2026, the anniversary edition once again brings together a wide range of teams, public and private schools, sports clubs, leagues, social projects, and community sports groups. More than 60 sports organizations are participating in the event, which is expected to attract approximately 4,000 people over the competition weekends. In addition to the competitions, the Festival Esportivo do Subúrbio Ferroviário offers a diverse program that includes sports clinics, community integration activities, discussions with former athletes, and cultural presentations. More than just a competition, the Festival has become a space for social interaction, knowledge sharing, and community engagement.
The 10th edition takes place between July and September. Basketball opens the competition schedule from July 30 to August 2, followed by handball from August 27 to August 30. Futsal concludes the Festival between September 24 and September 27. All competitions will be held at the Centro Educativo João Paulo II. To celebrate its 10th edition, the Associação Humano Progresso Brasil, the event’s organizer, counts on the partnership of Fondazione Milan (Italy), which has supported the institution’s sports programs since 2017.
Celebrating ten years of the Subúrbio Ferroviário Sports Festival means honouring a history built by thousands of people who believe in sports as a catalyst for inclusion, personal development, and social transformation. It also reaffirms the Festival’s commitment to nurturing talent, creating opportunities, and inspiring future generations. The future of our sport begins here.
