At Centro Educativo João Paulo II, learning goes far beyond the classroom. For this reason, our educator Jailton took part in the “Implementation of Vegetable Gardens and Home vegetable-Gardens Course”, promoted by the Mesa Brasil/SESC program — an initiative that has been a great ally of our institution in promoting food security and transformative education.
The training focused on encouraging sustainable food production and the pedagogical use of vegetable gardens in educational spaces. During the course, Jailton deepened his knowledge about vegetable cultivation, composting, integral use of food, and the importance of involving the community in caring for the environment.
Far more than just a technical training, participating in the course reinforced a commitment that is already part of Centro Educativo João Paulo II daily routine: the purpose to offer a comprehensive education, connected to the environment and to the real needs of our students. The choice of incorporating sustainable practices into school life is a way of cultivating not only food, but also values such as responsibility, cooperation and respect for nature.
With a highly recognized work throughout the Country, the Mesa Brasil/SESC program deals with food waste and promotes citizenship through food donations and training activities, a work that aims to build local solutions to global challenges. This experience reminds us that education flourishes when rooted in solid purpose and in the desire to make a difference.
