Basketball kicked off the Festival Esportivo do Subúrbio Ferroviário in an even more special edition, celebrating the Festival´s 10 years of history with four days filled with sports, culture, community, and excitement. This year, 10 teams participated: hosts João Paulo II and Nova Geração, along with ABS, CEPE, Colégio Estadual Vila Canária, Escola de Basquete, Mover, Marista, Team Bean, and Coach Villas. The event began on Thursday with the traditional opening ceremony, presented by the institution’s talented dance students. Shortly afterward, the games got underway with the Under-12 category, featuring teams made up of boys and girls. The final standings were Coach Villas in 1st place, Nova Geração in 2nd, and João Paulo II in 3rd.
On Friday, it was time for the Under-14 male category, with matches marked by determination, dedication, and competitiveness. Playing on home court, Nova Geração claimed the title, followed by CEPE in 2nd place and Marista in 3rd. Saturday was one of the most exciting days of the festival. In the Under-15 female final, our girls staged a historic comeback and defeated Team Bean 23–22, winning the title and becoming three-time consecutive champions of the tournament. The day also featured a sports talk with Gustavo Aurino, head coach of Vitória’s professional basketball team; Michele de Souza, manager of the Cesta Baiana de Basquete page; and Lara Tagliabue, former Italian national team player.
Still on Saturday, the Under-16 male matches took place, with Escola de Basquete taking first place, Marista finishing second, and CEPE third. To close out the day, a rap show got everyone singing along and kept the festival’s energy high. On Sunday, the final day of the event, the Under-18 male category brought the competitions to a close with highly contested matches. The final standings were CEPE in 1st place, ABS in 2nd, and Escola de Basquete in 3rd.
More than just a competition, the Festival Esportivo do Subúrbio Ferroviário celebrates a decade of stories built through sports, creating opportunities, encouraging physical activity, and bringing athletes, families, teachers, and communities together around values such as respect, discipline, unity, and teamwork. The 10th-anniversary edition was marked by great games, achievements, learning experiences, culture, and unforgettable moments for everyone who took part.
