Our Programs
Culture
The João Paulo II Educational Center believes in art as a tool for expressing identity and transformation. We are committed to revitalizing and promoting culture and the arts within our community. We believe that culture is the essence that connects us, enriches our lives, and shapes our collective identity. Therefore, we strive to create an environment where artistic expression can flourish and cultural diversity is celebrated!
Dance
Modern dance is one of the activities offered by the João Paulo II Educational Center. Aimed at promoting artistic expression and physical well-being, modern dance provides a unique experience for learning and personal growth.
In modern dance classes, students have the opportunity to explore creative and expressive movements while developing body awareness and motor coordination.
Under the guidance of qualified instructors, students learn dance techniques and participate in choreographies that encourage their creativity and personal expression.
Percussion
Percussion courses provide a rich cultural and educational experience for young people. With ancient roots, percussion also plays a fundamental role in cognitive and emotional development. Musical learning stimulates creativity, discipline, and self-confidence in youth.
At the João Paulo II Educational Center, students have the opportunity to explore the history and technique of percussion instruments, immersing themselves in a world of rhythms and traditions, recovering the heritage brought by Afro-descendants. The lessons are taught by experienced teachers who encourage individual expression and appreciation for cultural diversity. In this way, percussion becomes a powerful tool for social transformation, helping to form more aware citizens engaged in the community’s culture.
Revitalization of Popular Culture
Since its foundation, the João Paulo II Educational Center has aimed to teach children the importance of education related to history, providing a deeper understanding of their origins and sharing this knowledge with others. Among traditional festivals, such as those for Easter and the saints of June, the Folia de Reis (or Terno de Reis), celebrated at the end of the school year, holds a special place.
The staging of the Folia de Reis, which involves reciting verses, singing, choreographies, and percussion, is a journey that recovers the cultural tradition of rural areas, from which most of the residents of the city’s popular neighborhoods come. With its beauty and joy that fills the streets, the Folia de Reis succeeds in uniting the community, who follow the parade through the streets, singing popular songs and being moved by the beauty of the event.
Cultural Visits and Excursions
A part of the João Paulo II Educational Center’s program includes guided visits to museums and historical and cultural landmarks of the city, aiming to enhance students’ knowledge of the city in which they live, its history, and the culture it harbors.
Visits to various museums in Salvador and participation in cultural events, such as theater performances and musical events, are organized.
