The most eagerly awaited traditional event of the year, Folia de Reis, was celebrated with great enthusiasm on December 7 and 10, 2024, drawing residents and tourists who joined the festive procession. Folia de Reis is a deeply rooted tradition in the community, commemorating the birth of baby Jesus.
Although it is traditionally held on January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany, the Educational Center, due to its internal calendar, anticipates this event in December as part of its Christmas celebrations.
This year’s edition featured the traditional parade in Pelourinho, the city’s historic center, an established and much-anticipated tradition. Additionally, the procession passed through the neighborhoods of Roma and Bonfim, starting from Largo de Roma and continuing to Colina Sagrada. Along the route, several stops were made at homes and churches where Nativity scenes were displayed for contemplation and veneration. These moments provided a space for singing and strengthening community and religious sentiments.
A new highlight in this year’s presentation was the invitation from the Confraria do Senhor do Bonfim to perform during the celebrations of Nossa Senhora da Guia, held on November 30. The event was filled with joy and devotion, adding even more significance to the festivities.
