In the month of august, under the guidance of teacher Matheus Amorim, 5th-grade students started a new initiative called the Book Club. Each student chose a book of interest for individual reading and later for group work, sharing the stories and how each reading inspired them.
The main goal of the Club is for children to develop the habit of reading, stimulate imagination and share literary experiences with their peers.
Some of the students choose classics of children’s literature, such as “Vito Grandam” by Ziraldo; “A Traça Escritora” by Sandra Aymone; “O Moleiro e Seus Amigos”, adapted by Eliane Silva, and “As Aventuras de Hans Stalen” by Monteiro Lobato, among many others. In addition to the classics, some children ventured into more challenging readings, such as “The Environmental Revolution” by Michael Silverstein and “Encyclopedia of Contemporary Psychology” by Lannoy Dorin.
Encouraging reading from an early age is essential for developing critical thinking and imagination, for opening doors to new worlds that the pages offer. In the 5th-grade class, this is experienced at every Reading Club meeting, where children share with curiosity and joy the stories they explored in each book.
Each Reading Club session thus becomes a moment of learning for everyone. The exchange of knowledge happens in a light, fun, and discovery-filled way, inspiring children to dream, making reading increasingly enjoyable, and reaffirming the importance of nurturing imagination and creativity from an early age.
