Who We Are
Get to know the Humano Progresso Brasil Association
Located in the southern outskirts of Salvador, the capital of Bahia, in a region formerly known as Novos Alagados, the João Paulo II Educational Center welcomes 600 children, adolescents, and young people every day in morning, afternoon, and evening shifts. Our projects aim to complement school education, promote digital inclusion and technological knowledge, encourage motor and social development through sports activities, facilitate job market entry through professional training courses, promote food security initiatives, and support children, adolescents, and their families through pedagogical and psychological assistance.
The João Paulo II Educational Center is managed by the Associação Humano Progresso Brasil, a non-profit organization that oversees, monitors, and promotes activities for children and young people, in addition to managing partnerships and resources. Founded in collaboration with the Fondazione Umano Progresso, an Italian organization based in Milan, this alliance supports children, adolescents, and youth in vulnerable social situations by promoting educational, cultural, artistic, and sports experiences.
Since the year 2000, the João Paulo II Educational Center has been supporting families from the surrounding communities. Over the years, it has become a reference point in the Subúrbio Ferroviário region, especially for sports activities and events.
From its inception, the João Paulo II Educational Center was designed as a visually beautiful space, based on the belief that investing in the aesthetics of the environment is not just a matter of superficial beauty but a way to invest in the well-being and holistic development of individuals.
The purpose of the institution is clearly expressed in its mission.
Mission
To enable children, adolescents, and young people living in socially vulnerable situations in the Subúrbio Ferroviário region of Salvador to take charge of their own lives and become aware of their desires and talents. We provide a support structure for education, sports, and artistic expression to promote effective human and social development.
Vision
A place of authentic and holistic education for children, adolescents, and young people, contributing to the construction of a human community based on mutual trust, collaboration, a curious and rational understanding of events and phenomena, and a profound love for reality and people. This makes a difference in their lives and in society.
Values
Beauty • Trust • Love for Others • Love for Freedom • Common good
Beauty is the sign of the highest aspiration of the human heart; it can be expressed and shared among people if there is trust. To build trust, it is necessary to love others and cherish freedom, the most precious asset of every human being. All of this makes possible a society that aspires to and actively promotes the common good.
“Do not let yourselves be carried away by life; take control of your own life and decide to make it an authentic and personal masterpiece”.
Pope John Paul II to the Youth, 1985.
